Fair Winds Charter announcement ceremony 29 October, 2010 The Fair Winds Charter was officially announced on 29 October 2010 as part of Hong Kong Maritime Awareness Week! The Charter is a voluntary agreement by shipping industry players to switch to cleaner low-sulfur fuel when at berth in Hong Kong.
The programme originated as a breakthrough agreement in one of Civic Exchange's Green Harbours earlier this year, when industry players agreed to this voluntary initiative. Through the Charter, the shipping industry calls on regional authorities to regulate on emissions from ships and port activities across the Pearl River Delta Region before the end of 2012.
